Hillary Clinton is currently depending on Barack Obama to secure her more votes as she has fallen behind Donald Trump in the polls. That’s why it came as bad news to her this week when a hacked piece of audio was released that could put her relationship with Obama in jeopardy.
According to The New York Times, an audio recording from a fundraiser in February has just been released in which she questioned Obama’s plan to move forward with a trillion-dollar modernization of its nuclear forces, an issue she has remained largely silent on. She went on to say that she would be much tougher against foreign nations that hack into American computer networks than Obama has been, and that she would kill one of the Pentagon’s pet projects, a nuclear-tipped cruise missile.
“The last thing we need,” she told the audience, “are sophisticated cruise missiles that are nuclear armed.”
The recording lasts 50 minutes, and during a fund-raising event at the home of Beatrice and Anthony Welters in McLean, Va. Beatrice Welters acted as ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago when Clinton was secretary of state, while Anthony Welters was an assistant secretary of defense for nuclear programs from 2009 to 2014.
Anthony Welters could be heard asking Clinton about the modernization push and whether as president she would cancel the cruise missile, which he called a “particularly destabilizing, dangerous type of nuclear weapon.”
“I certainly would be inclined to do that,” she answered. “The last thing we need are sophisticated cruise missiles that are nuclear-armed.”
Obama is hoping that Clinton’s presidency will be an effective third term for him, so he will not be happy to hear that she is going against one of his most treasured agendas. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
